Paul Burton - Biography:

Paul is a freelance writer, producer and theatre, film and television historian. He started his career producing, directing and, in some cases, performing in various theatre productions in venues in Leicester and Leicestershire during the early 90s. This led to Paul beginning a 5-year association with Cable 7, Leicester's one-time community television channel. In addition to broadcasting throughout Leicestershire, the channel also used to broadcast programmes in Nottinghamshire and parts of East Anglia. While at the channel, Paul wrote, produced, directed and often appeared in short drama films and light entertainment programmes. He also produced a screening event of one of his hour-long drama films, Memories Evoked, which was filmed on location in Leicestershire and in north Norfolk, at a Leicester arts centre called Phoenix Arts.

In 2001, Paul began writing, producing and directing a series of short films. They included a thirty-minute psychological thriller called Premonitions. All of these films were screened at self-produced screenings at the Phoenix Arts.

Paul wrote and produced a number of radio plays in 2006 and 2007. They included The Wedding, that starred Paul Daniels, and Brides to Be, which starred Jeffrey Holland (Hi-de-Hi!, You Rang, M'Lord?), Judy Buxton (On the Up) and Vicki Michelle ('Allo 'Allo!). Both plays were broadcast by various radio stations on the hospital radio network.

In 2008, Paul's book, The Morecambe and Wise Quiz Book, was published by JR Books. The foreword was written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, the writers of Hancock's Half Hour and Steptoe and Son. Writing and researching the publication brought him into contact with Gary Morecambe, Eric's son, for the first time.

Between 2009 and 2012, Paul made various short films at Elstree Studios in north London. Paul Burton Films' titles included a drama called Resentment, which starred Vicki Michelle ('Allo 'Allo!) and her real-life actress daughter, Louise Michelle. A highlight of this period saw Paul producing and directing a drama film called Dancing with Angels. The production was made in association with Gary Morecambe. Paul, who also wrote the film, based on a short story written by Morecambe. All the films Paul made during this period were broadcast by Information TV on their channels.

In 2011, Paul began working as a co-writer, archivist and researcher on Gary Morecambe's book, Eric Morecambe - Lost and Found. The title was published by The Robson Press/Biteback Publishing in 2012. While working on this publication, Paul interviewed several people in the entertainment industry. They included: Lionel Blair, Brian Conley, Gemma Craven, Jim Davidson, Ken Dodd, Bruce Forsyth, Hannah Gordon, Eddie Izzard, Burt Kwouk, Vicki Michelle, Simon Pegg, Jimmy Tarbuck, Madeline Smith and Mike Yarwood. In addition, he also interviewed the television executive, Michael Grade. Working on the book also gave Paul the opportunity to visit Eric Morecambe's one-time home in north London, and to interview Eric's widow, Joan Morecambe, and daughter, Gail Morecambe.
